Carried away by posting photos (aka 'photo avalanche')

Up at 6.40. What a night, I had all sorts of vivid dreams. Name any of my concerns, and it was there.

Sitting.

Then out for the second day of the training. It goes well, but it's too late to get into details here, with my brain grilled again. So not much writing, but there will be pictures...

Cook the dinner, entering into the spirit of Mathematical thinking...

Report from the grill...

Rise at 5.45. Sitting. Feel sharp afterwards.

Breakfast, I succeed in breaking the glass shelf in the fridge while happily putting the jar of jam away. It slipped, or I didn't hold it properly, it depends on how you look at it.

Leave to High Barnet, allow more time for travel to see how long it takes.

It's the first day of Return to Teaching course today. Long session, with loads of information, so what has left of my brain got cooked. 10 weeks of hard work are ahead!

Back home. Strategy for dealing with the amount of stuff: do one thing at a time, do it with attention and care, acknowledge the beginning & completion, and move on. Also: switch the laptop/mail off and only use it at specific times.

Get changed, fold the laundry, internet, lunch. The JOTD is a pivotal part of the day.

Then I see to some course materials, prepare for tomorrow, send my CV & Support Statement for the review.

Grab a sandwich, AT lied-down, some DOA practice... I'm destroyed (positively destroyed if it makes sense to anybody) and look forward to some rest.

Chat with Beata... Online stuff... Recap and to bed...

Drop the guitar, couldn't make it today.

Tomorrow is another training day.

The tree, the school & such

My sister has sent me the picture today:

I drank a glass of warm water with honey & lemon first thing in the morning, will keep it up.

The sun is already up at 5.30, Jacek is up at 8 o'clock. Read an excerpt from a Preface to GC. Sitting.

It rained last night.

I go to Lidl to get some food. There's a good promotion there, 4 cans of tuna for £2.40 so i go for it and also get one for Colin. Yes, a significant detail from my (shopping) life.

At home: some organizing and preparing to leave. Today I visited the school that is keen on offering me the school placement. Yesterday I was excited, today I have serious doubts whether it's appropriate learning context for somebody like me. The school obviously experiences behaviour issues, and I don't have any UK experience, which itself is a challenge. So to begin with I'm looking for a place that will be able to support me, and the mentor that will inspire me, but both seem not available at this school. I leave the school feeling 'unclean'. Don't say yes, or no, don't judge, I'll wait few days and keep looking...

I walk back to my place and it's actually not that far. It's raining. Eat, talk with flatmates.

Then guitar. In the evening Colin cooks for Paweł, me and his English friend Paul. Paweł in Polish = Paul in English & Pawełek = small Paweł.

Then time for practice, catching up and preparing for the first day of the course tomorrow. I feel pressed with time, and have to make efforts to accommodate the practice. At the same time I appreciate having the practice, life is both easier & more difficult with. Sounds like a contradictions, but that's how I feel about it.

Ding dong, it's midnight, soon to bed. Rise is early tomorrow, and I say both Yes!!! & No!!!!! to this, in a spirit of holding contradictions.

The heat goes up!

Last night I watched an old (ca. 1984) documentary on Clive Barker, an artist that had a big influence on me during late secondary school & higher education. In a way his art helped me to go through these peculiar and often difficult times. I am not any more attracted to his work & visions, with its many dark elements that used to fascinate me, but disturb and slightly put me off now. Why is this? Perhaps it's the case of projection not taking place any more, perhaps it's the question of innocence, I don't know. Anyway, I feel indebted to Mr.Barker. His books & movies shook me up and prepared for what followed later. At that time I found a lot of what he has described as a true picture of our human condition, our potentials, possibility of transformation & transcendence. Well, I guess I still partly do. They spoke very loudly to me, that there's more to life than what we see on its surface, they also made me yearn for something I couldn't quite describe. CB says it's the imagination that unlocks the door, the door to another world, which is not somewhere out there, like some people are inclined to think, but here and now. I can't subscribe to the 'imagination part' of this point of view, but perhaps it's the way that works for some? What do i really know about such things?... And how it will be like for me in 10 years? It's all open. Hmm, some things shape us, they are good at specific moment in our lives, but then things move on, we let them go, or they let go of us, and we recognize that we need somethings else to nourish and teach us. I was fortunate to find something good that works for me, but that's another story.

At the window:

"I am a man, and men are animals who tell stories. This is a gift from God, who spoke our species into being, but left the end of our story untold. That mystery is troubling to us. How could it be otherwise? Without the final part, we think, how are we to make sense of all that went before: which is to say, our lives?

So we make stories of our own, in fevered and envious imitation of our Maker, hoping that we'll tell, by chance, what God left untold. And finishing our tale, come to understand why we were born."

Clive Barker, prologue to Sacrament.

* * * * * * * * * *

This morning I wake up in a strange state, perhaps something has been stirred in me, plus I'm bit sick, feel unwell in the body.

I do the morning exercise then attend to emails and such. JOTD.

Then go out for coffee with Chris in the Finsbury Park. It's raining. We catch up and talk. Make a call to meet with guitars next week to see where we are!

Then lunch at home, shopping...

One local school responded to my school placement request and we arrange to meet tomorrow. It's quite likely I'll undertake my placement there, which would be fantastic.

A lot is going on, finally, the heat goes up!

There's a lot of movement, I sit with the instrument & practice which is a good way of dealing with the situation.

And in the evening: emails.

More practice, online commitments.

Two days

I didn't post yesterday. In the afternoon I played tennis for the first time ever, and was very positively tired afterwards. I fell asleep in the evening and woke up in the middle of the night with the headache, how lovely. The dawn chorus began after 3 o'clock - I'm fortunate to have this room. It's close to the centre, but far from its noise.

And today we went with Colin for picnic with his friends in Hampstead Heath. Jacek as a social animal... Good people, good food, excellent weather and I also make a contact which can be useful for my school placement search.

At least ducks like me:

Back to Manor House:

It has been a week since I moved in here.

Another gorgeous day, did I mention it before?

Listen to a talk by one Polish doctor today, he speaks about the nutrition. It's interesting, with some useful informations, sometimes too technical for me though.

And here's an add I posted on London Gumtree today:

Hi there!

I'm 28 a year old qualified Maths teacher from Poland.

I speak fluent English but would like to improve my pronunciation and extend the vocabulary. In return I would be most happy to offer help with Maths (A-Level)

I'm looking for a Native English speaker.

Thanks & hope to hear from you soon.
Jacek

Hope it works out, as that could help to move my English forward (in a twofold way).

Yesterday when I reviewed my day I made the resolution to refrain from acting in a specific way. Today, when I was about to automatically repeat this action I recalled yesterday's affirmation and inhibited the arising impulse. I have a clear connection with this moment now, it was like a blessing.

The day ends on a positive note but it has been a difficult one for me... I examine the day & recall my aim. To bed.

A full day

Another full day of a wonderful sunny weather here.

I have recently shared a link to this journal site with a friend from Harrogate. She wrote today, saying that she learnt more about me from reading it than during time I stayed there (just over 6 months) Something to reflect on. Not often i get feedback about it.

Hang around with flat mate Colin in the evening. We have a nice curry for dinner, then he helps me with tailoring up-to-date CV. It seems that I'm not very good in 'selling myself', very much true. But why is this so? Modesty, false modesty? Not wanting to boast about myself? I've never felt I had to, just to give few facts about this and that and it's sorted. He seems to have a different view of my skills and abilities than Jacek, and encourages me to write more, which I do. It's useful to chat with him about things and he gives me a good boost of confidence in myself and about the future. Later on I send the school placement request to 4 places, and many more will follow tomorrow. Then we watch a bit of East Enders (not that I like it - cultural studies, of course) and an episode of Waterloo Street. It's a drama about the secondary school life. Of course it's exaggerated, it's just the telly drama, still, it's useful to watch it, and I enjoy it too. Later on C shows some of the pictures taken during his recent visit home in Thirsk (North Yorkshire) and on one of them I recognize his friend who happens to be the son of the man that lives in the Care Home I worked at. I remember his face from one of the pictures in a room 27, on the first floor!

Later on I talk with my sister Ania who is doing the night shift at that place tonight, and tell her the story.

A quality corner:

Another day in Londun

I get up before 9 o'clock, about 1.5h later then planned. I'm neither angry nor annoyed about it. I didn't add 'yet' to it, as that might indicate I'm negative (not positive) about it, or am i?

The Sitting.

Spend some time looking for the school placement online, chat with Beata, cook lunch.

After this go for a brief walk to the park, the weather is excellent, I enjoy it and this part of city. I've never felt like this since moving abroad almost 5 years ago. For the first time I feel like really being in the right place, strange, isn't it? On my way notice that i find it hard to describe the emotions/feelings i am experiencing now, but also more in general. I may embrace particular emotion, accept it but what is it's colour, shade, tone? Is there a word that describes it accurately? I'll keep looking at it.

Back home to check out the teaching/course related materials. While doing this jot down new words. After few years of feeling stuck and being unable to learn new words and expressions my poor brain graciously accepts new words again. So today's words: explicit, enthuse, resilience, wooly.

After this Colin helps me to improve my school placement enquiry letter. He pointed out few things that were not so good and superfluous in it and it's much much better now.

Time with Guitar. Dinner.

A new favourite activity. Spend time in Finsbury Park. Lie on the grass, soak in the sun, read the book, do nothing.

The sky:

Finsbury Park:

I call my sister in Leeds, we catch up.

Chi Kung at home. It would be perfect to do it in the park, but I'm too shy to do self-manifested movement there.

In the evening Pawel plays me some of his old band recordings, then we take out acoustics and play some stuff...

Division of attention practice. Online commitments.

The day ends and I offer my thanks and gratitude for it. I examine its events, particularly being interested in the interactions & relations with other people.

Not the start of the week I would wish for

One of those mornings when my body and mind is kind of petrified, unable to get up, something I remember from my teens time, hmmm. Consequently a late start to the day.

Modified morning exercises.

I cook early lunch: pasta with pesto & tuna.

Then my host/flatmate Pawel shows me a bit around the area, we check out the Russian shop and the famous local bakery. Then we sit down and he gives me demonstration of the Korean hand massage. He trained in some complimentary therapies. It's good stuff, and doesn't have an immediate effect. It gradually unfolds during the day.

Then to the Finsbury park for a while to chat with B&P, and off to Lidl, for some budget shopping. Lidl is 23 minutes walk from my flat according to my stopwatch. Not that bad. Sainsbury's is about 8 but it's slightly more expensive.

Home: division of attention practice, guitar, cooking ...

A view from room's window - the front:

On the left:

On the right:

The weather has been very good all day long, warm & sunny. London must be few weeks ahead from Yorkshire. Actually it's almost like the Summer.

JOTD, dinner with Colin.

Post the reading report for the ARC Study Group as it's due today. I also read one chapter from A Preface to Guitar Craft.

Later on: more guitar, cake etc.

Now see to various online commitments, review the day & reflect on restated aim.

Settling down

A street that leads into another street, where one house with the empty room waiting is:

A day of settling in, organizing, socializing & Northern-Exposure-ising.

A room

I had a good sleep last night. There are no conditions for a regular sitting, so move into other mode which also doesn't work here. So let it go.

Looking for the room in the morning, make the arrangements for visit later in the afternoon.

The room I visit seems like the one. I don't think I can get anything much better for this price in this location, it's still in the Zone 2, on the verge of Zone 3. The place is close to a very vibrant street with many shops and bars (many Turkish), it's just 3 minutes walk into the residential area, so in fact it's in the very quiet surrounding. And there are only 3 people living there: a Polish couple & an English bloke. I meet Beata, who shows me around. She studies counselling psychology and seems to have a very gentle and caring nature. And I like the room. It's tidy, bright, very basic (me likes) and has a good vibe. It's also a guitar friendly place, as her partner also plays the acoustic. Will be moving in tomorrow.

At the B&B for the rest of the day. Internet, socializing, some practice.

Leeds -> London (Lądek Zdrój)

Early rise, preparations.

Before leaving:

Ania gives me a lift to the station, where I catch the bus to London. I carry quite a lot of stuff with me, but it all seems essential, is it really? There's a big rucksag on the back, a little one in the front, a guitar in one hand, another bag and my suit in another. No more limbs available, but it would be good to learn how to carry things on my head (speaking about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XNx_z2il-g) Managing this in the tube (Victoria -> Aldgate East) is quite tough, but even mule impersonation can't spoil my good feel and excitement about all this.

The cheap bus:

Approaching Londun:

The place i stay at tonight is good. It's kind of a hostel in the private apartment run by a Korean bloke. He's very friendly & easy going. I stay in a 6 people dormitory, nice & secure. With Japanese, Korean & Indian. I dread to recall the other 'hostel' i stayed in London last time, and for the same price of £13 per night! I can stay here as many days as needed, before finding something permanent (that is for the next 11 weeks).

In the evening go to visit one room, as arranged, but it's the waste of time, money and energy, as the person is not there! OK, I could have confirmed it on the phone today, and check if he's home, but we already made the arrangement yesterday. Perhaps he has changed his mind, but could have at least acknowledged it. But there you go.

Tube sometimes gets empty, and that's pretty much how it looks like:

At the end of the day my body is aching, but it did a good work. It got bit lazy recently so it was useful 'kick in the ass', a friendly one, of course. It's only for the better.

Ah, and received some excellent news from Leeds when on the bus today!

Few points about the day

Up. Feel like listening to Mozart, so play the 4th movement from the 40th Symphony.

A day of packing, some laundry.

When jotting something down notice how much my hand writing resembles my father's style. It must be Kaleta gene!

And in the evening talk on the phone with Hernan in Kiel. Touch the base.

I have spent excellent few days here with my sister and Kofi. Very glad I could make it!

A day ends. I engage in a two-fold practice part of which is the exercise that helps to brush off the negative residues of the day (one of its many aspects). Off to hit the bed.

PS: here's the recent & last entry in the GC Calendar: http://www.guitarcraft.com/calendar/173

14th April

Clean some windows today. Good stuff, give me more of that please.

During chi kung work tonight I had the most bizarre chi flow ever, it's a good job nobody has seen me. In case one day someone does: I'm neither possessed nor having a heart attack. It's just the generated chi making me move this way. I'm perfectly ok, please don't interrupt to offer help or to call the ambulance, actually, I usually quite enjoy its healing work. Today it was very strong and made me laugh, an emotional blockage must have been dissolved.

And in the evening: some good GC practice (guitar, JOTD, division of attention).

Ah, and more Northern Exposure episodes today, what a brilliant show. In the evening watch the documentary on the famous English football manager Brian Clough. We watched with Kofi. And tonight: Liverpool - Chelsea - 4:4, excellent news for those who care about such things and support Chelsea.

A family day

We had a lovely walk with my sister in the afternoon.

Hello:

For lunch Ania made a delicious Shepherd's Pie (assisted by her obedient potato & carrot peeler, aka 'brother') And for dinner we had more fish with deep fried plantain. Mmm

We also watched 2 dvd episodes from Northern Exposure series. Its broadcast in Poland in the 90s was very successful and we remember it well with Ania. Later on there's My Big Fat Greek Wedding on the telly. Coincidentally, one actor plays in both of these. A superb entertainment, these two.

Today is a third day of my 'new' Completion of the Day practice, continue to develop a relationship with it.

And from Ania's camera taken during her stay home...

Igor: if anybody's asks, I'm not here, and please, stop bothering me with this silly human device and let me get some proper decent turtle rest now, will you:

Harrogate -> Leeds

5:15 - Rise, then the Morning Sitting with M.

Waiting for my sister to arrive, all ready to be moved to Leeds:

I have spent a very good day with Ania & Kofi, very glad I came here for the week. For the dinner we had a typical Ghanian dish, that included two types of fish, and fish is my favourite. This type of dish is meant to be eaten with hands, which was very enjoyable.

I've also gratefully observed today how my relationship to others & conduct were affected by yesterday's insight.

Late night, listen to Passio:

Thursday, 9 April 2009

Packed, 9th April

All my stuff is packed now, ready to leave tomorrow in the morning.

Today marks the transition, the internal one that coincides with the external change of circumstances.

A gift from Marek, hand made notebook (it's most likely Chinese):

Heartbeat

A noticing during the morning exercise - i was unable to experience/sense my heartbeat. I found it bit surprising, revealing and it also brought a relief, in a strange way, perhaps because of the act of giving it attention that followed. The 'listening for it' itself was already soothing. Could I say that this split and blockage is just the reflection of a divide on another level? Perhaps it is, anyhow, I'm grateful for noticing it.

And this morning I went with Marlena to the bank to help her opening the bank account. It took a long time, but it went fast and we enjoyed it. The assistant was very friendly and relaxed, and she could speak Polish with a lovely Slovakian accent.

And in the evening we made pizzas with Marek (M as chef, J as assistant)

Pizza 1:

Pizza 2:

Do I have to mention it was yet another spectacular culinary success?

Great evening with Marek, Marlena & Andrzej. There was also a toast.

-------

And two situations today when I was asked the same question:

In the morning:

Q: What are you doing?
A: I'm standing.

In the evening:

Q: What are you doing?
A: I'm sitting.

And also for the record: last night I booked a bus ticket to London, and I'll be moving there on Thursday, 16th April.

A full moon tonight...

Barszcz day

I must be becoming Yorkshire, and all this just before moving out. When walking today, i accidently went in the way of the middle age woman, and without much thinking said: 'sorry love'. Now, that's it.

When stuck - make barszcz (betroot soup)

A new week

The morning rule is this: the computer is off before i do the morning exercise. I have forgotten it for some time, and from the perspective of time I can now see how distracting it was. Today the morning exercise was strong and solid.

New week begins, it has this distinct feel about it.

Reflect on my life abroad: I've done what I had to do here in the North, and it was good, a necessary stage. Now it's clearly time to move on, and I can't wait to do it. I don't have problems with letting go. Completion is another beginning, as they say.

Part of the wonder of the Alexander training is how it increases the capacity to let go.

Saturday, 4 April 2009

Keep reading Adams' Restaurant at the End of the Universe. This stuff keeps making me laugh aloud every few minutes, I needed this sort of book.

I'm at the stage where i cannot anymore take for granted ways i've been going about some things. So a time of healthy questioning.

A good day really, but a bit dull weather-wise.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
